EQUAL PAY DAY
April 20, 2010
|
Each year, WSBPW
members and advocates across the country organize Equal Pay Day activities and
events in April to bring attention to the issue of pay equity.
Equal Pay Day is
held annually in April to signify the point into a year that a woman must work
to earn what a man made the previous year.
Census statistics released in 2008 show that the gap between men's and women's earnings changed by less than one percent from 2006 to 2007, narrowing only slightly from 76.9 to 77.8 percent.
In 2007, the earnings for African American women was 68.7 percent of men's earnings, a drop of more than 3 percent; Asian American women's earnings was 89.5 percent of men's earnings, a drop of 3.5 percent; and Latina earnings was 59 percent of men's, a drop of .6 percent.

BPW WA State President
President’s Message:
Welcome to Washington State Business and Professional Women Foundation
Washington Business & Professional Women (WSBPW) is a member of BPW Foundation. Founded in 1921, WSBPW is a multi-generational, bipartisan membership organization located in 15 communities throughout Washington.
Our members, partners and supporters are committed to our on-going mission: To achieve equity for all women in the workplace through advocacy, education, information and to promote economic self-sufficiency for Washington workingwomen.
Who We Are
WSBPW builds powerful women through personal and professional development and increased political and social awareness.
Washington working women and men from 15 communities large and small are members of Washington BPW. We help women achieve professional and personal goals through programs, workshops, networking and friendship. All is achieved through monthly meetings and other sponsored activities. Each Washington BPW organization creates its own unique agenda, but all have the same objectives.
It is our hope that BPW will come to mean as much to you as it does to each and every one of our members. The dream, born nationally in 1919 has become a reality for over 90 years. Through the years BPW has worked on legislative platforms such as the Equal Rights Amendment (formally endorsed by BPW in 1937 and not passed in Congress until 1972.) We are a bipartisan organization. All laws passed have a lasting effect on our lives today and in the future, and we take part in the legislative issues which concern us.
Objectives of BPW Nationally, Statewide and Locally:
- To elevate the standards of women in business and in the professions.
- To promote the interest of business and professional women.
